I hope everyone had a great 4th of July with lots of fun and celebrating. 4th of July is like the Christmas/New Years of the summer, especially when you’re a winter baby and you do not have a real reason  to celebrate other than holidays. 4th of July was spent around friends and family with lots of laughs. Anyone who knows me that is all I do, laugh, and obnoxiously, some people hate it, some people love it, most people make fun of the way it sounds.

At first, I wasn’t really feeling 4th of July because of the weather, but after a nap and actual plans I spruced right up. Mostly because I came up with an outfit I was pleased with and it did not require any additional shopping or last minute purchases, which made my night. The striped dress was recently purchased at Zara as a part of their basics collection ( before their sale) in several different colors, that slightly range in different lengths. They are so comfortable, great for on the go and can easily be dressed up or down, that I purchased 3 of them. However, I did have to get them tailored because they fit a little tighter, the small was too small for my comfort, but the top on the medium was too loose and hung too low, so I got the straps pulled up/shortened. To pull everything together, of course I had to mix prints with a plaid flannel from high school (5 years ago ..:( ..) tied around my waist and a new pair of chucks ( Converse’s/ All Stars).

Bridal Shower The bride & groom to be !

IMG_8057

This past weekend was all about the brides to be and their beautifully decorated parties. Both brides are really close friends, one of them being a best friend since childhood. Due to the hectic schedule and running around there was only time for iphone pictures. At the first bridal shower I was able to play photographer and take great pictures of the bride to be, the bridal party and her family. The following party I had one of my good friends play photographer with my iPhone for me since I knew it was my only shot at getting outfit pictures.

Both looks feature print-y looks that is perfect for the summer. Floral and Paisley prints are perfect for summer festivities especially bridal showers, because of their simple look, where you won’t be overpowering the guest of honor but you won’t look like you showed up to the wrong event either. The jumpsuit and its floral print just did it for itself, so much that I didn’t even wear shoes. Of course I had shoes, but around the party I was barefoot and later that night I just wore tan flip flops to keep it casual.  Jumpsuits and rompers are definitely a thing this season and will most likely transition into the fall/autumn collections because they are so effortless and timeless.

The following day for the second shower with the paisley pants, I made it look a little more chic with the blazer and pair of heels, since it is made from a stretchy material that can make it look more casual.

Top : H&M / Skirt: H&M / Shoes : Guess – Last Summer / Clutch : Urban Outfitters / Watch : Michael Kors

This week’s post doubles as an outfit post and as a Designer on a Dime. This skirt is/was sold separately at H&M as a co-ord set or a coordinating set. This is when a top and bottom are two separate pieces but have that same exact print.  They can also be referred to as matching separates. Mixing patterns and being too matchy matchy were on the not do list for while but as history repeats itself, both are now a thing. The matchy look can be done with a co-ord set, which come as a top and skirt, pants or shorts. The look can also be done with fully printed jumpsuits which are also filling up the racks. Co-ords are a great addition to your wardrobe for creating multiple looks from two simple pieces with the art of mixing and matching.

When I first saw the set in stores I loved the feel of the sweater like material that wasn’t too heavy with a good stretch. I remembered seeing something that look similar on Instagram and I was almost certain that the one that I saw couldn’t have been from H&M because it was on a celebrity… as if that isn’t normal. I haven’t been able to figure out who and where I saw it but from what I could remember I saw either Tia or Tamera wearing the piece together and possibly in a magazine. I later remembered Kéla from Kéla’s Kloset rocking the set in a few of her instagram posts. Months later I finally grabbed it off the sale rack I remembered what it looked so familiar  . . . from a much more expensive brand, Céline.

This set is almost identical in pattern to the Celine co-ord set with a more fitted cut. Because of my height, I opted just for the skirt. The top seemed to be on the longer side and as a set I didn’t get the right look. As I mentioned before both pieces were 50% off their original price of $60 each, a lot cheaper than Céline. So if you live near the city or an H&M that sells the trend selection of their brand stop by and see if you can get your hands on this set or something similar.

P.S I had to use the neon clutch again to tie it all in + I was too lazy to switch purses 🙂

Hope everyone had a great weekend ! Here’s another look from the weekend past filled with more love for the summer. I immediately grabbed this skirt off the rack when I saw it in Nordstrom without an occassion to wear it to and “saved” it for almost three months. I am a sucker for “poofy” skirts and especially one with a loud floral print. If you look through my Instagram, you can see the prevalent poofy skirt trend in my pictures. This look was for a birthday party for the pastor of my church and he was celebrating his big 60. Every year the whole ministry gathers to honor and celebrate his life.

Initially for this look, I was going to go with a black top & keep it all dark, those were my winter instincts. Thanks to a friend, I decided to go with a white top, which is a hidden crop, to go with the spring weather. Keeping the look, simple and classic I choose my all black So Kate’s and of course once again . . .  I grabbed my neon clutch, which I can’t seem to put down. For a fair warning, the next outfit post will include it again. But I’ve come to the conclusion that my obsessions, serves a purpose, by showing how versatile a bright accessory can be. 😉 Grab a bright acessory and make it work as much as you can ladies !
